Urinary Catheterisation
The course is aimed at all Nurses caring for patients requiring male, female or suprapubic urinary catheterisation. This course can be adapted to a 3.5 hour session on catheter care for care staff.
Duration: 3.5 – 6 hours (dependent on experience and numbers)

- Basic anatomy and physiology of the urinary system
- Risk Assessment
- Consent and Documentation
- Product Selection
- Catheter associated urinary tract infections
- Problems/Problem Solving
- Trial without catheter
- Practical session for male female and suprapubic catheterisation on simulated models
Assessment Method: Competency document provided with first signature from trainer.
Learning Outcomes: To provide knowledge and skills for candidates to be able to practise the procedure of urinary catheterisation under supervision until they become competent.
